The project will focus on the design, synthesis, and characterisation of metal-organic frameworks, and will follow up on results recently reports in Angewandte Chemie (2010, 49, 4598).. The position is ideal for a student wishing to acquire expertise in a range of areas such as synthetic chemistry, crystallography, and materials characterisation. Funding for this project has been provided by the RSNZ Marsden Fund. The annual stipend will be at least NZ$25,000 (tax-free) for a period of three years, and student fees will be paid in addition. All research will involve collaborations with other research groups both in New Zealand and abroad, and there will also be opportunities for travelling to international conferences. The position is based in the Institute of Fundamental Sciences at the Palmerston North campus of Massey University. Palmerston North is a small, student-centred city, two hoursТ north of the capital city, Wellington. The Institute has world-class facilities for chemistry research and provides a dynamic and stimulating environment. Qualifications: An Honours/Masters degree in the Sciences or equivalent. Enthusiasm and self-motivation. TOEFL certification for non-native English speakers. Experience: A background in synthetic chemistry is essential. Start Date: Anytime after February 1 2011.
